Head Coach Mindy McCord

Mindy McCord, has served as a selector for the US National Lacrosse team and Elite developmental squads, a national clinician, and former championship college coach at two different colleges.  She has experience officiating lacrosse, and has worked with US Lacrosse and supported their educational initiatives. At present Coach McCord directs and instructs camps and clinics throughout the country and is the Head Coach of the FL Lady Possums Premier Girl’s Lacrosse Club.

McCord’s coaching career began while studying for her Masters Degree in Counselor Education at Virginia Tech. At Tech she coached the women’s lacrosse club team for two years, helping them to earn Division I status in the ACC.

After earning her Masters in Education, she became one of the youngest collegiate head coaches at Oberlin College in Ohio. In four years she led the lacrosse team to dual North Coast Athletic Conference crowns, and was voted coach of the year by her peers.

In 1999 McCord took over two struggling programs at Western Maryland College (now McDaniel College), and had unprecedented success. As head field hockey coach she inherited one of lowest ranked programs in the Centennial Conference, and in three years assembled a college power house, winning their first ever conference championship, earning an NCAA tournament bid while achieving a high national ranking. She and her teams won more games and had the highest winning percentage in the program’s 68-year field hockey history.

While head lacrosse coach at WMC/McDaniel she transformed a struggling program into a 10-win team in three seasons. Her recruiting paid dividends as the team earned a trip to the post-season in 2004. Coach McCord has recruited and developed over 23 regional All-Americans, 10 All-Americans, and 4 Conference Players of the Year.

As a player, Coach McCord has national and international playing experience. She was a four-year starter at Lynchburg (VA) College; earning rookie of the year, team captain, all conference, regional All-American, and North/South Senior All Star game honors. Coach McCord also played while studying abroad in Australia.

Mindy was born in Westminster, Maryland and attended Westminster High School where she played field hockey, lacrosse, and ran track, earning honors in all three sports. In her senior year while recovering from an ACL injury she founded and implemented the first lacrosse club in Carroll County for middle and high school girls.  Her husband Paul, former Director of Velocity Sports Performance and  former NFL strength and conditioning/special teams coach with the Baltimore Ravens, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Buffalo Bills is now a personal fitness/history teacher at Bartram Trail H.S. and serves as the head women’s lacrosse coach and football assistant. Paul, Mindy, and their daughter Taylor currently live in St. Augustine, FL.
