2/6 - vs. Mandarin
Nease Girls Lacrosse opens season with a win against the Mandarin Mustangs on February 6th. Played at home, the Panthers offense took the lead in the first 10 minutes for a final score of 17 to 1. Goalie Chelsea Lancashire, having recently signed with Queens College in North Carolina defended the goal against the Mustangs. Nease scorers included Anna Egeln, Callie Francis, Bailee Hedstrom, Captain Casey Francis, Allie Lancashire, Catie Kurzanski, Jess Gimbel, and Amanda Santillo. Leading defenders include Madi Fehling, Nicole Nadeau, Julie Catalano and Sterling Spencer.
2/7 - vs. Fleming Island
Nease Girls continued their winning streak on Feb. 7th with a 16-0 win against Fleming Island. High scoring attack included Jess Gimbel, Casey Francis, Nicole Nadeau, Bailee Hedstrom, Julia Walker, Amanda Santillo, Callie Francis and Bri MacNaught. Battling the weather, the Eagles held the Nease Panthers to 4 goals in the second half. Nease will face Lake Highland Prep Wednesday February 13th at 7pm with a JV game at 5:30 at home.
2/13 - vs. Lake Highland Prep
In an exciting game against Lake Highland Prep the Nease Panther girls held the lead for a 7-5 win on Wednesday February 13th at the Panther Stadium. Senior Chelsea Lancashire was the stand-out defender with over 15 saves at the goal. Callie Francis, Julia Walker and Amanda Santillo each scored to give the Panthers a 3-0 lead halfway into the first half. Lake Highland scored two to bring the score to 2-3. Lancashire blocked 4 shots in a row while her sister Allie scored with 2:30 left in the half. Up by 2 goals, Nease came back with a score by Bailee Hedstrom with an assist by Amanda Santillo. Lancashire gave up 2 goals to Lake Highland bringing the score to 5-4 Nease. With 10:34 left in the game Anna Egeln passed to Casey Francis for a well needed goal raising the score to 6-4. Lake Highland scores from a free position to close the gap 6-5 with 7:35 left. Nease defenders including Sterling Spencer, Madi Fehling and Nicole Nadeau continued to defend the goal with Chelsea Lancashire deflecting 4 more Lake Highland attempts. With less than 2 minutes left in the game Allie Lancashire races for the goal and scores with a bounce shot. Nease wins 7-5.
2/15 - vs. Oviedo
Scoring 3 goals late in the second half could not save the Panthers from their first defeat to Oviedo High School at the Panther Stadium Friday February 15th. Coming back from a 17-8 defeat from last year, this years defenders held the Oviedo Lions to10 goals. Nease Panther Callie Francis scored just minutes into the game with an assist from Allie Lancashire followed by a score from Allie. The Panther defenders were on the prowl with Nicole Nadeau, Sterling Spencer, Madi Fehling defending the zone. Chelsea Lancashire once again showed her strength in defending the goal with 4 crucial blocks allowing only 3 goals in the first 10 minutes of play. Two quick goals by the Lions and two goals by Nease players Amanda Santillo and Casey Francis close the half at 5-4 Oviedo. The Lions and the Panthers rallied in the second half with Oviedo scoring 4 goals in under 6 minutes. Panther Bailee Hedstrom on the attack scored 3 goals closing the gap to 9-7 still with Oviedo in the lead. With 4 minutes left in the game Oviedo scores their final goal. Allie Lancashire raced down the field and scored number 8 for Nease With 3:08 seconds left Casey Francis with an assist from Amanda Santillo scores for Nease bringing the final score just beneath a win. Oviedo Lions 10 - Nease Panthers 9.
2/20 - vs. Bartram Trail
Home field advantage, a lunar eclipse and a zone defense could not give the Nease Girls Lacrosse team the win against Bartram Trail under the lights at Panther Stadium. Bartram coming off an 8-4 2007 loss to Nease won the game 11-9. Bartram Bears took the lead scoring three goals in the first 10 minutes with Nease defense blocking 3 attempts. Amanda Santillo scores the first goal for Nease with Jess Gimbel following with number 2 Bartram brings their score to 5, Nease closes the gap with another goal by Amanda Santillo with an assist from Allie Lancashire and a score from Nicole White. Nease comes back from the half with a quick score by Bailee Hedstrom only to have Bartram score 5 goals in 5 minutes. Nease offense took over with Nicole White passing to Anna Egeln for a score bringing the score to 9-6 Bartram. With fierce determination Nease and Bartram trade scoring goals to the end with Nease falling to Bartram 11-9. Final goal scorers for Nease were Nicole White, Amanda Santillo with an assist from Nicole White and Amanda Santillo.
